Cape Fear Community College showed its composure and depth on the road Wednesday night, pulling away from Denmark Technical College for a 102–84 victory on January 21.
The night didn't start easily for the Sea Devils. Denmark Tech came out with energy and confidence, forcing Cape Fear to respond after an early surge by the home team. The Sea Devils settled in midway through the first half, climbing back into the game through steady execution and defensive effort. Once Cape Fear moved in front, the opening period saw a few brief lead changes as both teams traded momentum.
After halftime, the Sea Devils took control. Defensive intensity picked up immediately, limiting Denmark Tech's rhythm and turning stops into efficient offense. Cape Fear's ball movement and shot selection fueled a strong second half, allowing the Sea Devils to gradually stretch the lead into double figures and put the game out of reach.
Offensively, CFCC was led by JJ Moore, who delivered a complete performance with 28 points and eight assists, consistently making the right play while setting the tone. The Sea Devils also received a major lift from the bench, as MJ Rice poured in 24 points, providing energy and scoring punch that helped break the game open. Jadyn Cooper added 14 points, knocking down timely baskets as Cape Fear maintained separation.
The win reflected a true team effort, with contributions throughout the lineup and improved execution on both ends of the floor. Cape Fear's ability to respond after Denmark's hot start and stay composed in a road environment proved to be the difference.
"Denmark really came out and punched first, and I loved how our guys stayed together and kept working," head coach Mark Lane said. "Once we settled in and started defending the way we're capable of, everything else started to fall into place. Any time you can win on the road, especially with a full team effort like that, it's a great feeling."
Cape Fear returns home to the Schwartz Center Saturday, January 24th as they welcome Region 10 foe Gaston College to Wilmington. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
