Allain’s Early Goal Lifts Sea Devils to First Region Win
Cape Fear Community College men's soccer earned its first Region 10 victory of the season on Monday afternoon, defeating Patrick & Henry Community College 1-0 at home.
The Sea Devils struck early when AJ Allain converted in the 12th minute off an assist from freshman Dom McNerney, giving Cape Fear the only goal they would need. The defense held firm for the remainder of the match, anchored by sophomore goalkeeper Aydan Scharf, who recorded four saves en route to another clean sheet.
Despite a scrappy and physical contest that saw several cards issued, the Sea Devils showed composure and toughness to grind out the result.
"Super proud of the boys for coming out and dictating the pace of the game through movement of the ball when needed and physical play when needed," said Head Coach Giovanni Vlahos. "We knew coming in that the next five region matches were crucial and we are taking every match one at a time. Getting the first of five under our belts felt good, but there's still a lot of work to be done."
With the win, Cape Fear improves to 2-2-3 overall and 1-2-1 in Region 10 play. The Sea Devils will look to keep their momentum going when they return to action Friday at home against Wake Tech.
