Men's Soccer Inches Closer to Playoff Birth
Cape Fear Community College men's soccer showed grit and composure on the road Tuesday, earning a 1–1 draw against Patrick & Henry Community College.
Playing without a regular starter on the back line, the Sea Devils' defensive unit stepped up collectively, keeping the match within reach despite early pressure from the home side. Patrick & Henry broke through late in the first half to take a 1–0 lead into the break, but Cape Fear refused to fade.
With less than 20 minutes remaining, John Roberts provided the equalizer—his second goal of the season—calmly slotting a low shot inside the far post through heavy traffic in the box. The goal capped off a strong team performance built on determination and defensive organization.
"Super proud of the boys for going to a hard place to play and getting something out of the match," said head coach Giovanni Vlahos. "We went down 1–0 at the half and the boys could have just folded, but they showed their resilience in getting a goal and making sure we came home with a much-needed point in the Region."
The result keeps Cape Fear moving forward in Region 10 play as the Sea Devils continue to fight for postseason positioning.
