Bio
Giovanni Vlahos enters his fourth season as Head Men’s Soccer Coach for the Sea Devils in 2026 after being appointed to the position in May 2023. A highly respected coach, educator, and scout, Vlahos brings more than two decades of collegiate, youth, and national-level soccer experience to the program.
Prior to returning to Wilmington, Vlahos spent several years in Southern California, where he began scouting for the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) in 2017. He also served as Executive Director of Poway Soccer Club from 2017 to 2020 and continues to work as a Coaching Education Instructor for US Soccer. During his time in California, Vlahos was Head Coach of the Cal South Olympic Development Program (ODP) from 2013 to 2018 and served as an Assistant Coach at San Diego State University from 2013 to 2014.
Before joining the San Diego State staff, Vlahos spent three seasons as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at Duke University from 2010 to 2013. He previously served as Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Greensboro College from 2008 to 2010 and held head coaching positions at USC Sumter (2007) and USC Salkehatchie (2006). During that period, he was also actively involved with the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA) as both an instructor and Olympic Development Program coach.
In addition to his responsibilities with the Sea Devils, Vlahos continues to serve as a scout for the USSF Men’s National Team program and remains involved with US Soccer’s Coaching Education Department. He is also a National Coaching Educator for United Soccer Coaches, a coach within North Carolina’s Olympic Development Program, and an assistant coach with Port City FC of USL League Two.
Vlahos holds a USSF “A” License, a UEFA “A” License, a USSF National Youth License, and a United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeping Level III Diploma. His extensive coaching, scouting, and educational experience has made him a respected figure in the American soccer landscape.
Giovanni resides in Wilmington, North Carolina, with his wife, Melissa.
