Sea Devils Pull Away Late to Top Hagerstown
Cape Fear Community College women's basketball continued its strong start to the season, using a dominant third quarter to pull away for a 70–56 win over Hagerstown Community College on Sunday afternoon.
The Sea Devils opened with energy on both ends, building a 43–31 lead by halftime. Though Hagerstown's pressure defense caused some early turnovers, Cape Fear found its rhythm in transition and created quality looks even when plays broke down.
R'Mani Robinson led the way with 22 points, six rebounds, and five steals, attacking the basket and opening scoring opportunities for teammates. Kelize Velez-Galan added 19 points, three steals, and three assists, connecting on several rhythm jumpers that stretched the defense. Yamorie Hardison continued her steady presence with 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals on 7-of-8 shooting, while Monica Surratt chipped in 12 points and four rebounds.
Head coach Felicity Havens said that while her team was a bit shaken early by Hagerstown's pressure, she was proud of their composure and effort in the second half. She added that the experience of being tested on the road will pay dividends as the season progresses.
The Sea Devils improve to 2–0 on the year and return to action Saturday, November 8, when they travel to face Southwest Virginia Community College at 1:00 p.m.
