Sea Devils Dominate Second Half in 5–0 Win Over Richard Bland
Cape Fear Community College took care of business on the road Saturday afternoon, earning a commanding 5–0 victory over Richard Bland College.
The Sea Devils came out with strong energy and quickly set the tone, controlling much of the early possession. Despite creating several promising opportunities, the first half ended scoreless as both sides battled evenly through the opening 45 minutes.
After halftime, Cape Fear made key adjustments and used its depth to take over the match. Fresh legs and steady pressure began to wear down the Statesmen, and once the first goal fell, the momentum swung fully in the Sea Devils' favor. From that point on, Cape Fear dominated play, maintaining possession, executing crisp passing, and finding the back of the net five times in the second half to seal the shutout victory.
Following the match, Coach Ponton praised his team's composure and balance on both sides of the ball.
"We came out strong and were able to execute our game plan well. As we have throughout the season, we picked it up even more in the second half and steadily pulled away. I'm very pleased with our defense and midfield for putting in the work in front of goalkeeper Jaime Maguire to deny them from getting too many opportunities. Fantastic play by our defense allowed time for our attack to sort itself out, and once they did, our confidence was flying."
Cape Fear improves to 4–2–0 overall and 2–0–0 in conference play, sitting atop the conference standings. The Sea Devils return home Friday to host Montgomery College.
