Bio
Abby Vendemia enters her first season as Head Coach of the Cape Fear Community College Sea Devils Women's Volleyball program in 2026 after serving as the program's assistant coach since August 2023. A former Sea Devil student-athlete, Vendemia has played a crucial role in the program's continued success, both on the court and on the sidelines.
As a defensive specialist from 2021-23, Vendemia helped lead the Sea Devils to the 2021 Region 10 Tournament Championship and the 2022 District Tournament Championship. Both teams earned berths to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, and the 2022 squad made program history by capturing the Sea Devils' first-ever national tournament match victory. Following her sophomore season, Vendemia received the CFCC Volleyball Coach's Award in recognition of her leadership, dedication, and commitment to the program.
After concluding her playing career, Vendemia transitioned to the coaching staff, serving as an assistant coach beginning in 2023. During her three seasons on the bench, she helped guide the Sea Devils to an overall record of 71-16, including a 42-2 mark in Region 10 play. The program captured three consecutive Region 10 regular-season championships, won the 2023 Region 10 Tournament Championship, and advanced to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in each of those seasons.
In addition to her collegiate coaching responsibilities, Vendemia serves as the head coach of the U16 team at East Coast Volleyball Academy, where she is dedicated to developing athletes' skills, confidence, and passion for the game while fostering a positive, competitive team culture.
A native of Snow Hill, North Carolina, Vendemia was a standout volleyball player at Greene Central High School, earning 2A All-Conference honors as a senior before continuing her athletic and academic career at Cape Fear Community College and later UNC Wilmington. Abby earned her bachelor's degree in Tourism, Recreation, and Sport with a concentration in Recreational Sport Leadership from UNC Wilmington. She remains committed to continuing her professional development and growing as both a coach and mentor.
"As a coach, I strive to be the mentor, role model, and support system that I needed when I first began playing volleyball," Vendemia said. "My goal is to create an environment where athletes feel valued, supported, and confident knowing they have someone in their corner both on and off the court."
