Sea Devils Celebrate Sophomore Night with Four-Set Win Over Louisburg
Cape Fear Community College volleyball sent its sophomores out in style Monday night, earning a gritty 3–1 Region 10 victory over Louisburg College inside the Schwartz Center.
The Sea Devils opened the night with poise, taking the first set 25–20 behind strong serving and steady offense. But after building early momentum, Cape Fear lost some of its edge in the second, fighting off a late Louisburg push to win 25–23. The Hurricanes refused to fold, capitalizing on Sea Devil errors to take the third set 25–20 and extend the match.
With the energy of Sophomore Night pushing them on, Cape Fear rediscovered its rhythm midway through the fourth. Tough serving and relentless defense turned the tide, as the Sea Devils closed out the set 25–18 to secure the home victory.
Rose Eklund led the way with 13 kills and 19 digs, while Libby Ipsen notched 12 kills, 10 digs, and 4 aces. Nevaeh Ortiz added 12 kills and 2 blocks, and Quinn Meiser anchored the back row with 31 digs. Sophia Luoni chipped in 18 digs, and Addi Olson posted 9 kills and 5 block assists.
"Huge credit to Louisburg for keeping the pressure on and forcing us to play uncomfortable volleyball," said head coach Colby Rosser. "While it certainly was not our cleanest night of volleyball, I'm happy to get a region win at home at the end of the season."
With the win, Cape Fear improves to 17–2 overall and 9–1 in Region 10 play. The Sea Devils are back in action Wednesday at home against Central Carolina before closing out the regular season Thursday on the road at Lenoir Community College.
