Sea Devils Volleyball Battles Past Wake Tech for Road Victory
Raleigh, NC — Cape Fear Community College earned a gritty four-set win over Wake Technical Community College on Thursday night, defeating the Eagles 25–23, 23–25, 25–16, 25–21. The victory improves the Sea Devils' record to 5-1 and gives them momentum heading into their upcoming home stretch.
After edging out the opening set, the Sea Devils faltered in the second as Wake Tech capitalized on Cape Fear's errors to even the match. But in the third set, CFCC's defense turned the tide. Behind steady back-row play and improved intensity, the Sea Devils limited the Eagles to a -.029 hitting percentage while building a comfortable lead. Energy off the bench from Sophia Luoni and strong serving and defense from Addi Olson helped seal the set.
The decisive fourth set saw Cape Fear trailing midway through, but outside hitter Rose Eklund caught fire with four straight kills to tie the score. From there, the Sea Devils closed the door with timely offense and disciplined defense.
Eklund led the attack with 14 kills, while Emma Anderson added 13 and Laci Bitterman chipped in six. Olson posted a highly efficient night with five kills on a .333 hitting percentage, plus an ace and two blocks. Setter duo Liberty Ipsen (23 assists, 11 digs) and Marin Diana (22 assists, 11 digs) balanced the offense, while Quinn Meiser was sharp from the service line with four aces and a team-high 12 digs.
As a team, CFCC tallied 51 kills, 58 digs, and 10 service aces.
Head Coach Colby Rosser praised her team's resilience:
