Cape Fear Community College volleyball had an impressive showing on the road, earning consecutive 3–0 sweeps over Southwest Virginia and Cleveland Community College.
Match 1 – #25 Cape Fear 3, Southwest Virginia 0
Cape Fear opened the day against Southwest Virginia, winning 25–18, 25–16, 25–16. After a slow start in the first set, the Sea Devils found their rhythm midway and maintained control through the rest of the match. As a team, Cape Fear hit .327 with 46 kills while holding SWCC to a .129 hitting percentage.
Freshman Laci Bitterman recorded her first career double-double with 14 kills on a .433 hitting percentage and 16 digs. Liberty Ipsen orchestrated the offense with 20 assists, adding 6 kills and 8 digs herself. Olivia White contributed a season-high 7 kills while hitting .700, and Quinn Meiser anchored the back row with 25 digs. Nevaeh Ortiz led at the net with 3 blocks.
Match 2 – #25 Cape Fear 3, Cleveland 0
Later in the day, Cape Fear faced Cleveland Community College and posted another 3–0 win (25–16, 25–14, 25–23). The Sea Devils excelled on both offense and defense, emphasizing consistent serve-pass play and pressure defense.
Bitterman notched her second double-double of the day with 12 kills and 12 digs. Ipsen continued her strong performance with 24 assists, 9 kills, and 17 digs. Rose Eklund added 14 kills, and Addi Olson contributed 5 kills with 7 points. Liberty's leadership at the net and in setting allowed Cape Fear to maintain control, despite a tight third set.
"Always happy to get a win on the road. Having to make some lineup changes, I'm happy with our response and ability to work together to get the sweep," said Head Coach Colby Rosser.
"Cleveland is a scrappy team who keeps coming at you, so I was pleased with our response under pressure. To get a second sweep on the road is a testament to our teamwork," Rosser added.
The back-to-back wins improve #25 Cape Fear's record to 10–1 on the season. The team showcased depth, adaptability, and consistent performance across both matches, highlighted by strong contributions from Bitterman, Ipsen, and Eklund. The Sea Devils return to action on Tuesday, September 30, when they travel to host Patrick & Henry Community College.
