Sea Devils Lose Thriller to Fayetteville Tech
In one of their most competitive matches of the season, Cape Fear Community College volleyball fell just short on the road Tuesday night, dropping a hard-fought five-set thriller to Fayetteville Technical Community College. The Sea Devils and Trojans traded momentum throughout the night before Fayetteville Tech ultimately prevailed 25–22, 19–25, 23–25, 25–18, 19–17.
Cape Fear recovered quickly from a narrow opening-set loss, using clean passing and aggressive swings to even the match in the second. The Sea Devils carried that energy into the third set, battling through long rallies to grab a 2–1 lead. But Fayetteville Tech, fueled by its loud home crowd, answered back to claim the fourth and edge out the decisive fifth in extra points.
Despite the loss, the Sea Devils showed grit and composure in a tough environment. "It was a really hard back-and-forth match," said assistant coach Abby Vendemia. "FTCC is always a tough place to play because of their student section, but our team responded well and kept fighting."
The result moves Cape Fear to 13–2 overall and 7–2 in Region 10 play as they turn their focus toward postseason preparation.
